Community
Campbell University Divinity School is a community centered on Christ. The student body is diverse in age, gender, ethnicity, and denomination. Our diversity enhances each student’s opportunities for growth and learning. We are united in our belief that Christ is Lord, the Bible is authoritative, and God calls us to ministry. In our diverse learning environment of people who are Christ-centered, Bible-based, and Ministry-focused, our students are provided an opportunity for meaningful discussion and the possibility of learning from one and another, both in and out of the classroom.
Diversity
Students at Campbell represent a wide range of ages and life circumstances. Some students have recently received their undergraduate degrees. Some students are middle-aged and are preparing for a second career. There are also students who are older adults.
Denominations represented include Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, A.M.E. Zion, Non-Denominational, Pentecostal Holiness, and more. Our students are preparing to be pastors, chaplains, missionaries, ministers in urban settings, professors, music ministers, youth ministers, counselors, and ministers in a variety of other settings.
Campbell Divinity Daily Life
Divinity School classes are offered in a traditional class format, and are held on Campbell University’s main campus in Buies Creek, NC. The flexibility of our block schedule allows for individuals to balance work, ministry, and family life, in addition to pursuing their graduate studies. The large majority of our students work at least one part-time job while they take Divinity School classes.
Classes are offered in a block format in a schedule that is “minister friendly.” Master-level classes meet once a week – with the exception of biblical language courses that are offered twice a week. Classes meet for one, two, or three hour periods. Courses are offered on Monday afternoon (2:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.), as well as all-day on Tuesday and Thursday (8:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.). This provides a wide-range of options for students. Some students take classes multiple days a week. Students commuting from a long distance often take all of their classes on one day. For some students who work during the day, they take advantage of our evening class offerings.
See Current ScheduleBecause the spiritual formation of each of our students is important, Campbell Divinity School holds a weekly chapel service on Tuesdays from 10:40 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Other classes are not scheduled during this time to allow students the opportunity to attend chapel. Our chapel services are planned and run by students, with the leadership of faculty and staff. Therefore, each chapel service is distinctly different and can represent a wide-variety of traditions and expressions of worship – reflective of our diverse community.
Watch the sermonsOne of the major characteristics of Campbell Divinity School is it’s community. Students, faculty, and staff journey with one another. Students learn in the classroom, but also outside of the classroom as they build relationships with one another. Learning takes place over coffee, during our designated lunch hour, and in peer groups that meet outside of class.
