It’s important to Campbell Divinity School that ministers have resources and opportunities available to them throughout the year that enrich them academically, spiritually, and in their ministries. This year’s Reavis lecturer is Rev. Dr. Lakisha R. Lockhart, a mother, wife, daughter, sister, former Zumba instructor, Womanist and coolest auntie around. She believes in the power of play, movement, aesthetics, and creative arts in life and in theology, using the body as a locus for theological reflection. She is a consultant, executive secretary for the Religious Education Association, and is on the Advisory Council for the Katie Geneva Cannon Center for Womanist Leadership. In her professional role as Assistant Professor of Christian Education at Union Presbyterian Seminary she is not only a teacher, but a facilitator, rope jumper, game-player, advocate, and catalyst for critical consciousness and engagement in faith education through various spiritual and artistic practices.
This southern lady hails from Columbus, GA by way of Waynesville, MO. She received her B.A. in Philosophy and Religion from Claflin University, M.Div. with a concentration in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Wesley Theological Seminary, M.A. in Ethics and Society from Vanderbilt University, and a Ph.D. in Theology and Education from Boston College.
She is the co-editor of the book Theopoetics in Color: Embodied Approaches in Theological Discourse and has two publications forthcoming in early 2025: Doing Theological Double Dutch: A Womanist Pedagogy of Play with Eerdmans and another co-edited book Nobody’s Perfect: Redefining Sin and Mistakes in Adolescent Christian Education with Fortress.

Rev. Dr. Matthew Schlimm is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church who research interests focus on biblical theology and biblical ethics. He has a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament from Duke University, an M.Div. from Duke University, and a B.A. in Bible from Asbury University. Dr. Schlimm’s research topics include Genesis, Exodus-Deuteronomy, biblical emotion, biblical theology, biblical ethics and violence. He has written several books including 70 Hebrew Words Every Christian Should Know, This Strange and Sacred Scripture: Wrestling with the Old Testament and Its Oddities, and From Fratricide to Forgiveness: The Language and Ethics of Anger in Genesis. He lives in the beautiful town of Dubuque, Iowa with his wife Stephanie and children Isaiah, Anna, and Isaac. He teaches at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary.
