The Campbell University Divinity School welcomes applications from all persons with a college or university degree who are seeking further education toward faith and leadership formation. Our identity is formed around our mission statement, which is to provide Christ-centered, Bible-based, and ministry-focused theological education. Because of that, we welcome applications from women and men from every Christian tradition who identify with this statement.
A new cohort begins the program each spring term. Applications may be submitted anytime, up to one year prior to starting the degree program. Applications received after class is full may be placed on a waiting list.
Eligibility
A four-year bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale from a regionally-accredited university or college or proof of equivalent education at a college outside the United States is required for regular admission. (Regional accreditation agencies include the Southern, Middle States, New England, North Central, Northwest, and Western associations of colleges and schools.) A grade point average less than 2.5 can still be considered for admission. However, applicants admitted with a GPA under the 2.5 admissions requirement may be admitted on academic restriction. If an applicant is admitted on academic restriction, the student will be placed on academic restriction during their first semester of enrollment. In an effort to assist the student with the transition to graduate theological education, the Admissions Committee will permit the student to enroll in a maximum of nine to ten (9-10) credit hours during the first semester of study. When a student is on academic restriction, the student is unable to receive financial assistance from the Divinity School. However, financial assistance will be evaluated and offered if and when academic restriction is lifted. Academic restriction does not affect a student’s ability to receive federal financial assistance.
A specific major is not required. The degree must be equivalent to the undergraduate degrees offered by Campbell University, which require 124 semester hours of course credit.
Elements considered for admission include application materials, references, academic background, and readiness for faith and leadership formation. An interview is required for admission. The Admissions Committee seeks students who are eager to engage spiritually, academically, and emotionally in theological education focused in faith and leadership formation. Readiness can be evidenced by applicants’ Christian commitment, leadership potential, and desire to explore the intersection of faith and leadership in their respective contexts.
Campbell University Divinity School reserves the right to limit admissions for any reason to ensure the quality of the degree programs and to maintain the purposes for which the school was established. Additional documentation, including standardized test results and educational references, may be requested from applicants to determine their readiness for graduate theological education. The Admissions Committee reviews all applications, determines eligibility, and makes recommendations for admission. Materials submitted in support of an application are not released for other purposes and cannot be returned to the applicant.
