Theological Education:

A Challenge That's Worth It

The sun is shining brightly, the birds are chirping sweetly, the squirrels are hopping gingerly, and the spring morning air is crisp! I can only smile and think it is a beautiful day on the campus of Campbell University, and I am so glad to be at the Campbell University Divinity School.

I reflect on the words of the Lord to Judah as they prepared to battle their enemies in 2 Chronicles 20:17, “This battle is not for you to fight; take your position, stand still, and see the victory of the Lord on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, and the Lord will be with you.”

On the road to graduate theological education, many times it may seem like a battle. A battle with finances, a battle with time, and a battle with new material! In 2 Chronicles, there is an encouraging word for the aspiring seminarian and current student alike. The battle is not for you to fight; take your position, stand still, and see the victory of the Lord on your behalf . . . the Lord will be with you!

The Lord continues to show himself through Campbell Divinity School. Since my first day as a student, God has shown me that he is indeed with me on this journey and through these battles. When the battle of economics loomed, God provided. When gas prices neared $4.00, God provided.

When the work seemed overwhelming and the papers were gaining strength against me, God stepped right in and made a way. From the beginning to the completion of graduate theological education, I can assure you from my personal experience – the Lord will be with you!
