Dr. Bruce Powers teaches courses in congregational leadership, spiritual formation, and educational ministry.  He and Dean Michael Cogdill were members of the team that shared the vision, created the design, and laid the foundation for the Divinity School, which opened in 1996.  Prior to becoming a professor in 1977, Dr. Powers was coordinator of the Training Center and a consultant for the Sunday School Board; he also served as a staff minister for churches in Kentucky, Georgia, and Florida.  He is the author or editor of eight books, plus journal articles and various other resources used in schools and churches.  His two handbooks on Church Administration and Christian Education are widely used as textbooks in theological education.  He and his wife, Jean, enjoy having students in their home and tell everyone that the Divinity School student body is like their extended family.  Their son and daughter-in-law are graduates of the Divinity School and serve as pastors; a younger son is a business professional in Europe.
